Getting started

What goes into a Mauritius GBC licence application?

A business plan with a clear description of the activity, target markets, a structure chart, three years of revenue and cost forecasts, funds flows and sources of finance, plus due diligence on every beneficial owner, director and shareholder. The management company submits it to the Financial Services Commission. The FSC returns incomplete files, so a complete pack is the fastest route.

Do my documents need translating for Mauritius?

Yes, if they are not in English or French. The FSC accepts applications and supporting documents in either language, and anything else needs a translation certified as true and correct by a qualified translator. Arrange translations of company documents early, because they can hold up the licence.

Can Mauritius company documents be apostilled?

Yes. Mauritius is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so apostilled Mauritian documents, such as the certificate of incorporation or the Global Business Licence, are accepted in other member countries without consular legalisation. Treaty partners and banks may also ask for the tax residence certificate, which is a separate document.

How long does it take?

Usually 2–4 weeks after KYC approval. The FSC reviews the business plan and due diligence before issuing the licence, so a complete file is the fastest route.

Do I need to travel to Mauritius?

No, not to form the company. Formation is remote. Some banks in Mauritius ask for a video call with the beneficial owner before opening the account.

Where are GBC board meetings held?

In Mauritius, with at least two Mauritius-resident directors taking part. Holding meetings there, keeping accounting records at the registered office and auditing the accounts locally are among the factors the FSC uses to decide whether the company is managed and controlled from Mauritius. You can join by video; key decisions should be taken at those meetings.

Are the owners public?

No. Beneficial ownership is filed with the Registrar and held by the management company, but it is not published. It is disclosed to authorities as required.

Can I move my GBC to a new management company through OCC?

Yes. The new management company completes due diligence, the board approves the change, and the FSC and the Registrar are notified. The outgoing management company hands over the records and any resident director roles once its fees are settled. Plan the move away from the audit and FSC fee dates.

Is Mauritius on any FATF or EU list?

Not as of September 2026. Mauritius left the FATF grey list in October 2021 and the EU's AML high-risk third country list in 2022, which makes international banking easier than it was.

What if you cannot incorporate my company?

If we cannot incorporate your company, we refund the service fee (minus courier costs). We review your plan with the management company before you pay.

Pricing & payment

How much does a Mauritius GBC cost with OCC?

From US$2,999 all-in for year 1, including Registrar and FSC fees and the management company's standard service. Year 2 renews from US$4,916. The annual audit and any extra substance, such as office space or staff, are quoted separately before you pay.

Are there hidden fees?

No. We list government fees, the management company, resident directors and our fee line by line. The audit fee depends on how many transactions the company has, so it is quoted once we know your plan.

When is the annual FSC licence fee paid for a GBC?

For each FSC financial year, which starts on 1 July. Global Business Licences have no end date, but the licence stays valid only while the company is in good standing and the fee for the current year is paid. We invoice ahead of the July fee together with the management company's annual charges.

Which Mauritius GBC costs change from year to year?

Mainly the audit and any extra substance. The audit fee depends on how many transactions the company has, and office space or staff in Mauritius are priced to your plan. Government fees, the management company and resident directors stay fairly stable, and every line is shown before you pay.

Banking

When should I start the Mauritius bank account?

Straight after the licence is issued, because keeping the principal bank account in Mauritius is one of the factors the FSC looks at for management and control. Mauritian banks usually review the full file prepared with the management company and may hold a video call with the beneficial owner. The bank decides.

What does a Mauritian bank ask a GBC for?

The certificate of incorporation, the Global Business Licence, the constitution, board resolutions naming signatories, the business plan and a structure chart, plus identity documents and source-of-wealth evidence for the beneficial owners. The management company usually sends the pack, so the bank sees the same information the FSC approved.

Can you open the bank account?

We introduce you to banks in Mauritius and prepare the application with the management company. The bank decides. A principal bank account in Mauritius is part of the substance rules, so plan for this step.

Compliance

What tax does a GBC pay?

The corporate rate is 15%. Specified foreign income, such as foreign dividends and certain interest, can get an 80% partial exemption if the company meets the substance conditions. That brings the effective rate on that income to about 3%.

What substance does a GBC need?

At least 2 resident directors, a principal bank account in Mauritius, accounting records kept at the registered office and accounts audited in Mauritius. For the partial exemption, the company must also carry out its core income-generating activities in Mauritius with adequate staff and spending.

Can I use a Mauritius GBC under tax treaties?

A GBC is tax resident in Mauritius and can apply for a tax residence certificate from the MRA. Whether a treaty benefit applies depends on the treaty and on real substance, so take advice before relying on it.

Is an audit required?

Yes. A GBC prepares financial statements that are audited in Mauritius and filed with the FSC each year.
